My Fanfics

For those interested and not wanting to sift through my archives, here’s a list of my fanfics, both posted and in-progress. Links to the posted ones are on my fanfiction.net profile, accessible in the handy-dandy link list to your left.

Poetry

In Memory of the Monarchs: My first ever shot at fanfiction. Had two lines bouncing around in my head which manifested itself into this one day – they’re the last two of the poem, for anyone who’s interested. Concerning the thoughts of the Narnians as they lament the loss of the four monarchs of the Golden Age. I’ve had a few people tell me that this might sound good set to music: I’ve had very minimal composing experience, but I may give it a shot one of these days. Stay tuned! Er, no pun intended.

Shattered Stone: My personal favorite of my poetry. I wrote an article comparing Aslan and Jesus for The Lion’s Call around Easter, and the painting that accompanied it stuck in my head for days. I give it full credit for the inspiration behind this poem. Susan and Lucy’s thoughts upon seeing Aslan’s death, resurrection, and the breaking of the Stone Table.

Decision at the Door: Not a whole lot to say about this one. This one was written for a Prince Caspian-themed poetry contest on The Lion’s Call. Not my best, I don’t think, but it’s mine all the same. Didn’t win, for those of you wondering, but I enjoyed writing it, so I can live with it. :) About the Door in the Air and the scene surrounding it at the end of Prince Caspian.

Oneshots

I Am the Lion: My first attempt at something non-poetic. Had the phrase “I Am the Lion” stuck in my head during a train trip one day, and it turned itself into this – I was in such a hurry to finish it before I pulled into the station. :P A little reminder from Aslan about what He has done for Narnia, and for each of us.

When I Walk Through the Door: Kinda a companion to I Am the Lion. Always did love the last bit of Last Battle, and this piece reflects that. It’s very special to me. On walking through the Stable Door near the end of The Last Battle.

I Have Fought the Good Fight: Ah, I love this piece. Mostly because I actually had a chance to write Jewel, one of my absolute favorite characters from the Chronicles and the one I consider to be most like myself. It’s a comapnion to Your Servant is Calling (see below). I’d wanted to do something about Jewel in a similar style after I wrote the first part of YSiC, but couldn’t think of anything until I came across a passage from 2 Timothy that really fit him, I think. And so this piece was born. Concerning Jewel and what runs through his mind during his last moments.

A Faun and His Flute: Another special one to me. They say to write about what you know, so I thought about what I knew and what I could work into a Narnian setting. Music is a big part of my life, and so I put that into words for this fic. Never thought I’d write Tumnus, frankly, but he was the best choice for what I wanted to say, and as an added bonus I discovered how much fun it is to write Lucy in the process. Tumnus looks at his music and his flute in a new light, with the help of Lucy.

The Deplorable ‘Sue: Oh my goodness, what was I thinking with this one? I got really fed up with all the Mary Sues I was seeing, and decided to do something about it. It’s REALLY different from my usual writing style, but I at least had some fun with it. S’pose I was bound to write something anti-Sue-ish eventually, after all. All I’m saying about this one is that Charn may not have been destroyed in the way you think it was…

Reason for the Season: What seems to be my most popular fic thus far, which is interesting because I think it’s also the most risky. Took a big chance with this one, I think, but it really seems to have paid off. My sort of explanation on why Christmas is present in Narnia, presented as a dialogue between Tirian and Lucy in the New Narnia. Boy, this was hard to write, but so worth it. I really like this one.

The Music of the Stars: Ooh, I had fun with this one. Astronomy class + reading a book called ‘Planet Narnia’ = inspiration for a somewhat spacey sort of fic. I got the inspiration for this one when I was REALLY stressed, and writing it was a great therapeutic help for me. Prince Caspian and Doctor Cornelius during one of their Astronomy lessons.

Adelphoi: This is one of my favorites, partially because it’s very close to my heart. It was written with a friend of mine in mind. I’d wanted to do something in the vein of two close friends having to go their separate ways for a while, but I couldn’t get the idea for the effect I wanted. Then the dream hit, and I woke up nearly shouting “THAT’S IT!” Peter and Edmund after the events of Prince Caspian, discussing the fact that Peter won’t be coming back… and exactly how Edmund feels about it.

At the Sound of His Roar: Partly written simply to take advantage of the new thesaurus I’d just bought at the time. Boy this was a fun one to write. The sound of Aslan’s roar has such a powerful effect, whether it’s the effect it has in the books or the feeling I get when I hear it in the movies. I turned that feeling into a brief fic that I’m quite pleased with.

Sorcery and Sudden Perfection: Delved back into humor and parody with this one. I got sick of all the Mary Sues and such I was seeing after the release of Prince Caspian, and the frustration manifested itself in this fic. Nikabrik decided to go with something even worse than a werewolf and hag for help…

Completed Long Works (I think)
For some reason I seem fond of adding to things that I think are done. The following pieces are good examples of that, as they started out as oneshots that kept nagging me to add more.

Passing it On: The idea for this one came to me while practicing the piano, as can probably be figured out by those who catch the little references in it. I’d originally had it as a oneshot, but something bugged me to add another chapter to it, and I’m glad I did. The relationship between Edmund and Eustace is an interesting thing to play around with, and I’m glad I had the chance to. Maybe it’ll come again someday. Eustace and Edmund discuss their thoughts on their experiences with Aslan.

Your Servant is Calling: Oh, I really like this one. Came about while reading my favorite passage, Psalm 86, and it suddenly hit me that it fit Tirian pretty well. I entwined the Psalm with his story to get this piece. Again, intended to leave it as a oneshot, but Psalm 77 and 12 wanted me to add them, so I did. I think this is how it’s going to stay. Various thoughts of Tirian’s as he fights the Last Battle, set to various Psalms.

In-Progress Long Works

The Rise of King Miraz: I haven’t updated this in MONTHS (bad me!), but I’m working on it, honest! This started out small as a writing contest entry on (what else) The Lion’s Call, but decided to expand itself into a full-fledged fanfic. A closer look into how Miraz overthrew his brother and took the throne.

Psalmfiction: The Psalms Through Narnian Eyes: Not really a long fic, per se, just a collection of various Psalmfics as I write them, so I can keep them all in one place. Started with Psalm 121 and Edmund’s source of help, and added Psalm 150 and the praise of the Narnians. Plan to add more later.

Solid as Stone: Very different from my other fics, as the canon characters take a secondary role. Actually, only one currently is scheduled to make an appearance: The White Witch. I wanted to write the story of the first statue that she added to her collection. This one’s gone through several iterations while drafting, but I think I’ve finally settled on a version I like. A prologue and first chapter are written and posted, and the rest of it’s in the works.

Under Construction: Still in the Pondering Process

Philia: Looking forward to this one, but that also means I REALLY want to do this justice. Tirian and Jewel are my favorite characters, partially because of the rare bond that is their friendship. I plan to detail how they met and how that relationship grew in this fic. I’ve had this bouncing around in my head for more than a year, so I’m glad to finally get something down on paper. Well, sort of.

The Song: Companion of sorts to Music of the Stars. The Narnian stars intrigue me, and this would sort of be a series of oneshots about Narnian history through the eyes of the Stars and the song they sing.

Unnamed sequel to Adelphoi: At least, unnamed until I remember the Greek word for ‘kings.’ Adelphoi focused on Edmund’s coping with Peter’s last adventure in Narnian. This would be a piece centered around Edmund dealing with /his/ last adventure. There’s a lot more to sift through, there, so I’m pretty sure this’d be a multichaptered piece.
